" Hello Dr. Dey,
It's always great to talk to you! As I shared, you have
my permission to use the photo we took together for the Leadership
program. Glad to hear things are going well.
Your support and coaching definitely had an impact on
my career path. You helped me to put things in perspective
as well as establish personal goals and choices. It was great
to bounce ideas off of you and get objective feedback. Your
coaching really helped me develop a "game plan"
as well as recognize areas in which I was powerless. As a
result I was able to put my energy in areas that could be
affected and let go of some issues in which I could not facilitate
change. You also taught me about large organization healthcare
dynamics which was very insightful. Thank you! I wish you
continued success.
Please don't hesitate to call.”

Coaching Residents to achieve specific career goals
"As director of the Medical Education Department at
Oakwood Healthcare Systems, I have always kept in mind the importance
of providing a wide range of resources for our residents to
choose from in meeting both their professional and personal
needs. Among the options we have employed in the past are the
consulting services of Timothy J. Dey, M.D.
Dr.
Dey has provided private coaching at our request to Oakwood
residents seeking success in achieving particular professional
goals (often related to passing USMLE III or board-certification
exams). Such work has typically consisted of a series of meetings
over a period of weeks or months, with an emphasis on having
the resident identify a goal and time frame, co-create a plan
that is likely to succeed, and then implement that plan with
modifications as needed. All work between Dr. Dey and the
physician is kept completely confidential, and residents having
made use of this resource have been uniformly successful in
reaching their goals to date.
Our experiences with Dr. Dey have been quite positive,
and I would feel comfortable recommending his services to
those with similar needs to our own."

Executive Coaching at the Outpatient Clinic Level for physicians and support staff
At The Dey Group, we are skillful at being able to integrate
the corporate drive for profitability with the physician's needs
for a professionally satisfying environment that promotes delivery
of the level of care that patients report favorably. The Dey
Group speaks both "languages" fluently, and restores
clear dialogue between management and healthcare providers that
is often confused or absent. With a common goal and a sense
that each side is interested in the other's needs, morale and
productivity in the work environment improve dramatically. Patients
are keenly attuned to these dynamics, and report the quality
of their care to be much improved. This is documented by improvement
in the post-visit survey data, and increased profitability.
A few words on this type of service from one of our clients:
“As part of its commitment to excellence in providing
excellent healthcare to the population it serves, the Ambulatory
Division of Oakwood Healthcare Systems continually invests
resources in developing the interpersonal skills of its physicians
and support staff. Oakwood makes ongoing use of the consulting
and training services of Timothy J. Dey, M.D. as part of that
commitment. Dr. Dey works with our ambulatory physicians both
individually and in groups to develop advanced interpersonal
communication skills between doctors and their patients, administration
and staff.
Interviews and training conducted by Dr. Dey with physicians
and support staff are confidential to assure integrity, and
always done with a view towards creating the best possible
experience for patients by promoting the healthiest and most
satisfactory workplace for those who serve those patients.
That this approach has value for our organization and our
customers has been reflected in the data collected regarding
patient satisfaction with their visits to our health care
providers. We are pleased with his work for our organization
and would recommend him to others seeking these services.”

Coaching Residents in Academic Jeapordy
"I chose Dr. Dey upon recommendation from his work with another residency program. He was prompt to respond to my initial inquiry and forthright in explaining his approach toward working with a Resident in academic jeopardy. My questions were answered in detail and to my satisfaction. I was able to sense his insight and ability to communicate, even by telephone. Dr. Dey drills down to identify the problem, whether from information processing, personality, or conflicting goals. He drives the Resident within a mutually agreed upon time frame through goal oriented coaching and matches his personalized interaction to the communication style that best motivates his client toward a solution. Dr. Dey offers personalized support and sincerely cares about his client’s success. He also provided me timely updates on the progress working with my Resident while respecting his confidentiality. He proved to be an excellent resource, able to identify personality type to best utilize his coaching skill toward a successful outcome for my Resident. This first experience with Dr. Dey was a positive one and I would highly recommend his services."

"WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT WORKING WITH DR. DEY?
My medical residency program recently engaged the services
of Dr. Dey as a personal consultant to help me prepare for
STEP III, a critical exam which had presented an obstacle
to my success as a physician. Initially, I resented the idea,
feeling somewhat belittled and harboring some reservations
about the whole endeavor.
All this changed, however, during my first meeting with
Dr. Dey. I found him to be a friend and personal advocate.
Laying out the relationship from the beginning, he explained
his role as ally and facilitator of my success. Dr. Dey started
by getting to know me. Then he had me do a personality inventory,
emphasizing my strengths. Following this, we moved on to the
practical aspects of preparation, all the while looking at
the big picture. Himself a physician, Dr. Dey was able to
fully relate to my situation.
Over the course of time, I saw Dr. Dey pull on my behalf,
coordinating the various efforts of various faculty members
interested in helping me. Working together was a pleasure…and
yes, I did pass the exam!
In Dr. Dey you will find a gentle spirit, a listening
ear, and a perceptive personality. But best of all, you will
be greatly encouraged!

M.D.
"Working with a cheerleader at a confessional"
Finding out that I hadn't passed the NBOME boards was difficult enough, finding out twice was excruciatingly painful. It became apparent that my original two methods of studying would not work. My program coordinator felt it would be in my best interest to seek the help of an "executive coach." Enter Dr. Dey. Working with Dr. Dey was essentially like working with a cheerleader at a confessional, the best way to explain it. He makes you confess whether or not the plan of study you're currently on is working. If it is, then he's there to cheer you on and encourage you. If it is not working, together a new plan is formed and regular check-ins are held to make sure that it is working. One of the best parts of this is, there is considerable flexibility in when the meetings would take place over the phone: most often in the evenings after work, and occasionally on the weekends. In a few short months, tweaking my study methods, checking in regularly with Dr. Dey, and performing multiple self feedbacks in the form of tests (something I had not thought of before our meetings started), my confidence in my abilities grew. The results - a passing score on a very harrowing examination.
Take it from me, working with Dr. Dey is worth the time, effort, funds, and restructuring needed to pass any task.

Sexual Harrassment/ Respectful Workplace Training
"Please give strong consideration of The Dey Group,
Inc., to help strengthen your company's investment in your
employees. We chose them to provide us with a tool we could
use to help foster a more respectful workplace. We have been
very pleased with the results.
I have long been troubled by the conventional tools available
to help hospitals and businesses with "sexual harassment"
training. We felt that we did not want to provide training
in this topic. Instead, we want to focus on the goal that
most workplaces desire: a respectful environment. With this
idea, we went searching for a company that could provide us
with this tool. The Dey Group responded to our request and
developed a customized seminar that met our needs. We felt
that with they allowed us to focus on the right things and
still reduce the liability concerns rampant in today's business
environment.
They created the presentation called "Respectful Workplace"
and provided it to our company in several time slots to meet
the needs of our 24-hour hospital. They were responsive to
our needs, timely, and did an excellent job getting the message
across to our employees. They used multimedia (PowerPoint,
videotapes), flipcharts, vignette cards, and handouts in an
entertaining and interactive style that made the presentation
enjoyable. They really sought out the experiences of the people
present to make their points clearer and relevant. They bonded
well with our employees and helped bring a diverse group of
people together with a shared vision: a respectful workplace.
We continue to use their services to provide this presentation
for new employees periodically. We would also be quick to
consider them should we have a resource they can provide.
I strongly recommend The Dey Group for the solution your company
may need to help it be more successful. Please feel free to
contact our Human Resources Manager, Melissa Burns, or me
if you have additional questions about The Dey Group and our
experiences."

Letter of Appreciation (Associate Professor - Bellevue University):
Dr. Timothy
Dey has provided excellent service as both an Adjunct and
Curriculum Developer to Bellevue University. Dr. Dey is extremely
conscientious and continually strives to produce quality work.
Dr. Dey has provided superb voluntary guidance to many of
Bellevue’s Healthcare Administration graduate students.
In addition to stellar academic instruction and curriculum
development, Dr. Dey has displayed a firm understanding of,
and passion for, the issues and concepts presented in the
online courses he teaches. Dr. Dey is always prepared to discuss
course material, but also offers keen insights into the trends
in the field of Healthcare Administration. Teaching online
presents many communication challenges that require superior
communication skills.
During the five years I have worked with him, Dr. Dey
has demonstrated a great deal of dedication and compassion
for his students and Bellevue University. Dr. Dey’s
commitment to excellence is inspiring."

Letter of Appreciation (Award-Winning Business CEO):
I had the privilege of being introduced to Dr. Timothy Dey at Bellevue University when he was a professor for one of the master’s classes I attended. Dr. Dey was by far one of the most profound and positive influential professors I encountered while working on my Master’s degree. Dr. Dey provided timely and creative feedback on each assignment which encouraged a renewal of energies during the long road of being a full-time student and business executive. Dr. Dey’s insight, during the course that I had under his direction, challenged me to learn more and think of course topics in a broader scope which added increased dimension to my learning process.
As a business executive of an electronic health records company, I have sought Dr. Dey’s processional consulting services to aid in becoming a better executive as our company has grown exponentially. As a female business owner and executive, I found it difficult to turn to friends for support for the high stress and fast pace of a growing healthcare company, because it was difficult for them to comprehend the dynamics of working as an executive in the healthcare sector. From the first consulting session I had with Dr. Dey, there was an incredible sense of relief of stress and he provided me with stress coping methods to aid me in handling the tremendous load of responsibilities that I carried as a healthcare executive, parent, daughter, sister, and friend.
Dr. Dey has a remarkable gift of breaking down walls built by stress and enabling his clients with renewed strength and better insight. The result for me was the ability to look at situations that arose with my clients, vendors, or staff, and step back for a moment and reanalyze those situations and see multiple methods of handling for optimum outcome for all involved.
I have found Dr. Dey to be a most spiritual person quite in tune with the unspoken concerns that stressed out executives are not often comfortable discussing. Dr. Dey has made a profound and positive impact upon me from our coaching sessions on many levels: harmony with myself in such a chaotic life, ability to focus on the real problem and not only what appears at first sight, vast improvement in effective communication between myself and my team, and help me to find peace with personal guilt issues from being a single executive, parent, daughter, sister, friend and master’s student.
I would highly recommend Dr. Dey to any executive seeking to improve themselves in effective and proactive leadership. Dr. Dey has an uncanny way of knowing when to touch base with his clients. I’ve experienced several times when I was so stressed out, even on a weekend, that Dr. Dey just sent a “touching base” email at just the precise moment I needed to talk to someone after the tragic death of a client and friend. Dr. Dey sensed in my reply email that I could really benefit from talking with him and he took time from his weekend to have an impromptu coaching session. I consider Dr. Dey an outstanding professor, unprecedented skilled professional coach for executives, and even though we have not met, yet, I am honored to consider Dr. Dey as a friend.
The benefits of the clarity, insight to the deeper issue, and stress coping techniques that Dr. Dey’s professional consulting brings to each of his clients is quite unique and vastly successful from the first consultation. I would highly recommend Dr. Dey as a professor as well as richly gifted professional consulting coach.

"Thank you for everything. You really have been an amazing contribution to
my life over the past 10 weeks. I didn't expect to have that much support

Letter of Appreciation (student enrolled in Masters program in US having emigrated from Iraq)
Dear Dr. Dey,
I wanted you to know that I completed my MPH this last semester with a 4.0 cumulative GPA, attended the ATSU graduation ceremony in Kirksville, MO on May 28, and was one of three students nominated by faculty and students for student of the year. I must admit, I felt a little disappointed for not getting the opportunity to meet you at the awards ceremony like I always thought I would be able to... However, everything happens for a reason and I am thrilled to be able to have you as a mentor. I have said this before, and I will say it again now, you were THE best professor I could have ever had while studying with ATSU because you made the biggest impact on my life.
Thanks to you and your lessons the manner in which I receive, respond, and relate to others has completely changed. It is a special and powerful thing when a course impacts your LIFE in this way. I went into the class hoping to get a good grade, but came out a changed and enlightened person. You taught me how to be more real as a human.
I am one of your biggest supporters, and obviously have seen something special in you to transform from seeing you as a professor to a mentor and friend.
Look forward to hearing from you soon,
Linda Yonan
